Weekly Collect*

Almighty ever-living God,

who govern all things,

both in heaven and on earth,

mercifully hear the pleadings of your people

and bestow your peace on our times.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit

one God, for ever and ever.

*The word 'collect' comes from the Latin Collecta which meant a gathering of the people together. Today it is applied to the opening prayer of the Mass, as it gathers together the prayers of all the worshipers and draws on the particular themes in the readings and the celebration.
